Forget Sex!! Whether it’s a peck on the cheek or a passionate French kiss, kissing can be one of the most intimate, sensual experiences with someone else. Kissing is part of foreplay and as any expert in sex will tell the better the foreplay the better the sex. Here is everything you should know about kissing.

1. Most people remember their first kiss more vividly than any other memory -even  the first time they  had sex.

Yes, you read it right! People remember their first kiss more vividly than the first time they had sex.  A study conducted by John Bohannon of Butler University asked 500 people about their memories of important life experiences, including their first kiss and losing their virginity. The kiss beat everything as the most detailed memory.

2. Why do we kiss?

Why do we kiss and why is it so popular? The most accepted theory is that kissing is a way to exchange biological information about whether or not our partner will make a quality mate.

3. It prolongs life

A study has found that men live up to five years longer if they kiss their wives before leaving to work live, get into fewer car accidents, and have a higher income than married men who don’t. So gents, pucker up for your health’s sake!

4. Not all culture kiss

Anthropologists have discovered cultures in Asia, Africa and South America that do not kiss at all. Even cultures that participate in kissing sometimes frown on doing it in public.

5. Some people are terrified of kissing

First kiss makes everyone nervous, but for some people, that anxiety never goes away. Chronic fear of kissing is known as philemaphobia.

6. Kissing keeps us healthy

In addition to making us feel good, several studies indicate that kissing can actually help keep us healthy. Swapping mouth bacteria boots our immune system, the extra saliva produced when kissing washes out dangerous bacteria and the raised heart causes blood vessels to dilate, thus lowering blood pressure.

7. Two out of three people turn their head to the right when kissing.

A report published in the Journal Nature by a scientist from Ruhr University in Germany analysed 124 pairs of smoochers and found that 65 precent go toward the right. People then are more likely to tilt their heads to the right when kissing instead of left. Next time you kiss check out this theory.

8. It’s basically a workout for your face

A kiss mostly involves the muscle known as orbicularis oris, which are around your mouth that pucker your lips. A total of 146 muscles are involved, including 34 facial muscles and 112 postural muscles. Not surprisingly, just one minute of kissing burns 26 calories. Did you know that the science of kissing is called philematology?

9. Longest Kiss

The longest kiss lasted 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds and was achieved in 2013 by Ekkachai Tiranarat and Laksana Tiranarat (both Thailand) at an event organised by Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
