5 Easy Updates to Modernise Your Home

Giving your home a ‘facelift’ doesn’t necessarily have to cost you a lot. There are simple modifications that you can do without committing too much time and money to make your home feel and look more contemporary. Here are 5 easy updates to modernise your home.

1. Redo Your Floors

Floors take up a huge amount of space in your home and because of the extensive amount of traffic they endure they can quickly become dull, dirty and damaged. Certain floors can also capture an odour that is impossible to get rid of no matter how much you clean so replacing your floors is an incredible way to refresh your space.

“The easiest way to completely flip a room is to replace the floors,” says floor specialist Chapman Floor Coverings, “If you have carpet, getting it torn up and replaced with some nice timber is a quick solution that modernises a home instantly”.

2. Install New Faucets and Taps:

Updating your bathroom and kitchen with new taps is an easy and affordable way to make the space look way more modern.

“It is quite a simple process and will often take no longer than 10 minutes to switch out your old, dated faucets and taps with beautiful, trendy hardware that will make your bathroom look fully renovated for under $100” says plumbing supplier Gentec Australia.

3. Paint Your Walls

Refreshing your walls with a new coat of paint in a trendy colour is the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to make your room look brand new. A freshly painted wall makes a room look super clean and updating dull colours to stylish shades will completely change the aesthetic of a space and make it easier to decorate.

“Sage greens, stormy blues and burnt umbers are all colours you can expect to see in interior design this year” notes the paint experts from Colour Cast Painting, “Use a primer to ensure you get the most out of the colour”.

4. Install Some New Lighting:

Lighting makes a huge impact on the look and feel of a room. Adding some unique lamps or coloured LED lights into your space can transform it from bland to bright and beautiful. Lighting is a key feature of modern home design so optimising your lighting will make your room look more modern and feel bigger and brighter.

5. Dress Your Walls and Floors:

If you’re looking to upgrade your space on a budget or you’re renting your home then using wall and floor coverings to update your space may be the perfect solution. Buying large area rugs to cover up floors that are damaged or that clash with your decor is the easiest and cheapest way to give your floor a new look. Big art pieces are a great alternative to painting your walls and can change the way a room looks dramatically.

Try checking out Facebook Marketplace or your local thrift store to find some cheaper options to spice up your space.
