5 Ways to Express Your Creativity

You work so much and don’t have time for anything else. However, do you feel that creative side of your brain just dying to express itself, but have no idea how to do that? There are people who lose this side of themselves after school and dive into the monotonous daily life without any spark of creativity and art. If you really want to get back on track and find the thing that will make you express your creativity the best way possible, you should definitely do so, as it’s never too late to get that part of the brain working. Sure, if you’re a newbie at this, it will take some time and training to be perfect, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t start today. Allocate a couple of hours a week to be creative, and, if you don’t know how to start, here are some ideas:

1. Take photos

5 Ways to Express Your Creativity

Photography is perhaps the most popular way of being creative nowadays. If you have an eye for this and think you’re good at it, you should definitely take a good camera and start working. Learn about photography and start your photography journey. There are numerous ways in which you can express yourself: you can either go for nature photography, perhaps culinary photography if you’re a good cook or simply taking portraits of people. If you prove you’re a good photographer, you can even make this a side job as there are many people looking for cheap and amateur, but good photographers. Browse online through tips and tricks and experiment with lenses and filters as much as you can.

2. Design clothes

Who’s to say that only Donatella Versace or Vera Wang should be fashion designers? If you’re good at drawing and into fashion, why not design a couple of clothing items? You can start small – simple dresses or t-shirts. If you have somebody in your closest circle of friends and family who knows to sew, it would be a good idea to collaborate and actually produce certain pieces of clothing that you can sell online. Who knows – maybe you’re next in line for Paris Fashion Week!

3. Draw and sketch

Again, if you’re good at drawing (or just want to get better), you should definitely give drawing or sketching a go. There’s a whole sea of people who do this for a living – just find a good idea (such as drawing certain tweets, sayings, quotes or puns), and sketch them in an original way. Another option would be to get fun ballpoint pens and start drawing caricatures of people around you or celebrities. However, make sure you don’t put pressure on yourself – if your goal is not to earn something on the side, you can do this simply in order to express your creativity.

4. Write

Not all of us are good at drawing, but there are people who are extremely good with words and putting them on paper. If you’re one of those, then you could simply write all of your thoughts down. The most obvious choice here would be keeping a journal, but that’s not necessarily creative, is it? There are many ways in which you could realize your writing potential: if you have a great idea, sit down and write a short story (that could perhaps one day grow into your first novel), poems or even songs.

5. Direct short films

There are great websites to give you ideas for a certain writing/film project. Say you’re not good at writing, but you’re very interested in cinematography: give making your first short film a go. If you have a great idea for a movie, you can sit down and write the script by yourself (or simply ask a friend for help). Rent a camera, find people who are willing to work with you and play with the scenes. Even though the most difficult part of this process would be to find actors for your film, you can always ask your relatives or your closest friends. However, know that this could be a long process and it takes a lot of reading and learning to edit the film, but if you’re interested in it, nothing’s impossible.

Expressing yourself and allowing yourself to make and do great things is a must. Our creativity is what makes us intelligent beings and expressing our creativity in our free time can most certainly help us see the world differently which can later help us in other aspects of life as well. Don’t be afraid to do the thing you want to, and nobody will judge you. Do this for yourself, not for anyone else.
