7 Awesome Benefits of Chamomile Essential Oil

Essential oils are the bomb for your skin. What are they? They are derived from plants and they have strong potency. Basically, they are the genie in a bottle.

So today, we are discussing: chamomile essential oil.

Chamomile is one of the oldest herbs known to humankind. It is always an integral part of ancient medicines in both traditional and non-traditional forms. Chamomile is a member of the Asteraceae/ Compositae family, and there are two different varieties is available:

  • Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum Nobile)
  • German chamomile (Chamomilla Recutita)

They look slightly different from one another and so as their chemical composition. Research has been done on both varieties and found that active ingredient: chamazulene is higher in german chamomile.

But we are here to discuss the benefits of chamomile essential oil, so here they are:

Wow… but don’t use it directly over the skin. Dilute it with coconut oil, mix 3-4 drops of chamomile essential oil with coconut oil and dab it on your skin. It soothes and calms the skin. Also, hydrate and moisture it.

Apigenin which is present in chamomile oil, in recent studies, it shows that it can inhibit the growth of cancer cell. Cancer cell needs blood to keep the tumour alive. And apigenin reduces the ability of cancer cells to grow blood vessels.

In aromatherapy applications, you can use diffuser or spray.

If you are using a diffuser, always follow the instruction. Put some essential oil in a diffuser, diffuser allows the scent to evaporate and spread through rooms. And enjoy the aroma of the oil. 

If you are using a spray bottle, put 10-15 drops of essential oil, dilute it with an ounce of water. Shake well before using it.

Piece of advice – Never use a plastic bottle for spraying as chamomile oil can break down the plastic bottle over time.

Whereas in topical applications, you should always dilute the essential oil in any carrier oil which suits you. You can use chamomile oil in massaging, in bathing, or mix with lotion as well. Always do the patch test before applying it on a large area.

Is there any side effect?

Well, yes, chamomile essential oil or any essential oils are concentrated and potent oils. So, you might experience side effects if you are allergic to.

Pregnant and breastfeeding

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you should first consult your doctor before using chamomile essential oil as it is very potent and concentrated.

Chamomile essential oil is indeed impressive for the overall health; however, precautions need to be taken care when using it.
