Bored With The Same Dining Room? Get The Best Renovation In Your Budget

Furniture Finds

Your dining room is a place where you welcome guests to break bread with you. Having the right feel for such an important room requires some well-purposed furniture. You don’t have to get all new stuff, but a few new (or new-to-you) pieces can make the dining experience one to remember for all your guests! While the dining table and chairs are important, just as important are a serving area, some great wall art, and some fantastic lighting. Don’t forget to add in some random décor pieces to draw attention to key areas, and an area rug to bring it all together.

“Upcycling” and “Re-purposing”

In order to get the most bang for your buck, check out thrift shops and yard sales. They’re great places to find pieces for re-purposing. Old desks can become serving buffets and bookcases can be china cabinets. A new dining table range is a great way to anchor the room and re-covering your existing chairs can add a whole new look. Mismatched chairs are a fun way to add a whimsical feel to the area.

Creature Comforts

Make your dining area pet-friendly and get a fun place for your pets to dine. So, you can enjoy their company and keep Fido from begging at the new dining table you just bought! In a smaller space, an old buffet can serve as an area for your pets to lounge in during dinner (or regularly) and the top surface can be used to serve meals. Don’t forget to add in a special pet dish and a fun mat that complements your design. The floors don’t get messy, and you can make the pet area feel like it’s part of the room’s theme.

Odds and Ends

Accent pieces that coordinate or contrast the room can really make a dining area pop. In the dining room, there are a lot of options, from dishes and cutlery to side tables and wall art. This is a great time to borrow from other rooms. Add in those re-purposed pieces, or keep your mismatched theme going. Most flooring can be painted – if you have carpet you’ll want to pull that up and paint what’s underneath, though! In a smaller space, a modified window seat can even double as a bed for when you’ve got more guests than you expected.

DIY Decor

Paint can be used on the walls, ceiling, the floor, or even pieces you buy to give them a fresh look. Dishes aren’t just for eating food. If you’ve got some pieces that don’t match, try using them as wall art to save a bit of money, and utensils can be used in the same way. How about using an old plate and a couple of utensils to make a clock? What about sewing some old kitchen towels into a quick tapestry to add a bit of uniqueness to the area?

Let There Be Light

Lighting is a great way to bring the room together, but also to make sure you can see those you dine with. If you don’t have access to sufficient natural light. Add in enough lighting above and around the room to make sure that the room, guests, and food can all be seen clearly. If you’re still having difficulty getting the lighting how you want, mirrors are always an option. You can use mirrors just about anywhere, from the dining table itself to chargers, wall hangings, and even an entire mirrored wall, if you want.
