Casablanca ‘La Marseillaise” Gone Viral
If you love your classics you most definitely watched Casablanca a movie that will never fade. Over the last few days, however, the classic 1942 flick has become a source of inspiration due to a certain scene being shared and gone viral since the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris.
For those of you who haven’t seen it here’s a quick summary. Casablanca tells the story of an expatriate American bar owner who chooses to help the anti-Nazi resistance during World War II in the Vichy French-controlled city of Casablanca, Morocco.
This above scene has recently gone viral, where we see Nazi officers drinking at the bar belt out the patriotic German tune “Die Wacht am Rhein.” Upon hearing this, the heroic resistance leader defiantly goes to the bar’s band and demands they play the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise.”
The musicians not only play it loud, but the other bar patrons stand up to join in with conviction, united in drowning out the nearby Nazi singing who ultimately quiet down and return to their table, as the crowd cheers and shouts of “Vive la France” can be heard in the background.
It’s a beautiful and triumphant scene of the French national anthem being sung with passion to silence evil, if only for that moment.
This is a symbolic scene that is inspiring every French man and woman to stand strong even in the face of the present tragic events in Paris.
