Get better results from your exercise by eating right.

In summer, we’re lucky because when the sun’s out and fresh fruit is in season, it seems easier to live a healthier lifestyle. At the same time with backyard BBQ’s and post salt-water cravings, sometimes we find our hand in the potato chips instead of the watermelon bowl.

It’s ok to sometime reward yourself, but what we should never forget is that it’s a lot easier and faster to eat 800 calories than to burn 800 calories.

So if you’re always rewarding yourself with extra food on the days you workout, yes you are still getting your workouts in, but you’re not getting all of the benefits you deserve for your hard work. This idea is a big wake up call for many people!

Fitness is definitely not the only way we should feel good about ourselves, but for many people when we feel good in our body we feel good in the rest of our lives.  I know that when I feel strongest, I feel like I can accomplish anything in the world- it’s like my strength gives me rose-colored glasses.

It seems like nutrition is often a missing piece when it comes running or a workout at the gym.

After a workout you should absolutely refuel yourself. Make good choices, and think of it as little elves  you are putting into your body to make it strong, make you feel good, and give you energy. Eating whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, poultry and fish provides vitamins and minerals to fuel your workouts. Eat low-sodium foods to reveal your ab muscles. Consuming more protein than carbs will reduce your stored body fat and build muscle tissue.

Educate yourself, food is fascinating and it plays such a big piece in our lives.
