How to Choose a Theme for Your Newborn’s Room
When our family is about to welcome new addition, we are overjoyed. We also feel like we still have so much to do and so much to prepare. That we’ll never get to the end of it. While you absolutely don’t have to do everything now, the nursery should be prepared sooner than later. We all want to give our little ones the happy childhood they deserve, and the room they will spend most of their time in should be decorated with this in mind. When your due date is approaching, you want it to be nice and done already. However, you might be wondering how exactly you should decorate the nursery? After all, your opportunities are endless in this department as long as you keep things practical. To give you some inspiration, here are some tips on how to choose a theme for your newborn’s room.

Remain Practical and Flexible
You might have already saved a bunch of photos on Pinterest depicting beautiful, bright and white nurseries. But while these might look good in a magazine, in reality, they are everything but practical. First of all, be prepared for various messes throughout the first several years of your baby’s life. Collecting stains is probably not the way you want to preserve memories. Your colour choice will be partly dictated by the theme you choose. Whatever that may be, always keep practicality at the forefront of your mind and always go for easily cleanable surfaces. Such as wallpaper that you can just wipe off.
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing the colours and decor. Is that you are basically doing this primarily for yourself, at this point. It will be a while before your baby, cares about the colour of their bedding or the theme of their room. So you should really choose something that you yourself like and will feel happy and content spending time in.

Keep It Simple and Universal
You don’t have to come up with a complicated theme for the nursery to look magical. Something as simple as a night sky theme can be a perfect choice. It leaves a lot of room for further decoration and modification at a later stage. You don’t have to paint all the walls in dark blue. You can appoint a feature wall, or even the ceiling, and create a nighttime feel in the room at any time. Which will undoubtedly come in handy when you want your little one to fall asleep faster. Add cloud and star-themed decor to make it cuter. When your baby gets bigger, who knows, maybe you can transform the decor into a space theme.
Bring Nature Closer
Today, we are constantly hearing about how beneficial nature is for our wellbeing. So, why not create a relaxing environment both you and your little one will be able to feel calm in, by opting for natural materials and a natural theme? For instance, you can go for a forest theme with adorable woodland creatures. Every boy and girl will absolutely adore while growing up. You can paint a big tree on one of the walls that will be the focal point of the decor. Or you can get adorable wall decals that will be easy to change up when you get bored of them. When buying the furniture, opt for wooden pieces and natural finishes, and equip the room with handmade wooden toys that both fit into the theme and are actually safer and more beneficial than plastic ones.

Choose Something That Inspires Learning
Just because your little one won’t be reading for a while, decorating a room that inspires learning is beneficial and quite frankly original. If you yourself like travelling and want to teach your little one about the world early on. You can go for a world exploration theme with a map painted on the wall and globes used as decor. If rather, you are a bookworm, why not create a library-themed nursery? Where you will be able to read to them and nurture an interest in them for books from a young age? Bookshelves, a little reading nook, and classical children’s literature-inspired wall decor will make this room warm and homey.
Prior to your little one arriving, you might feel like you must get everything done – childproofing the entire home for the kids’ safety, getting the nursery spick and span, buying all the toys and other necessities for the baby… It’s a bit overwhelming, but the last thing you want is to stress yourself out about these things. Your baby will not be crawling around yet, so if you haven’t childproofed every last corner, don’t worry. They will also not mind whatever colour you choose for their room. So, just relax and enjoy the process.
