How to Motivate Yourself to Achieve Your Goals
How to Motivate Yourself to Achieve Your Goals
We all know that we have space in our lives for improvement. Whether that’s changing our lifestyle completely, or making small changes in our daily routines, nobody has a perfect life. But we often fall into a routine that can keep us in the same place for a long time, without so much as an option of progressing. Or sometimes, we have the will and the motivation, but no energy to move forward. But not to worry, there are methods that will actually give you results and get you to a place in life where you want to be. Here are a few:
Set both long-term and short-term goals
If we want to move forward, we first need to know what we’re moving towards, and this is where long-term goals come into play. Whether that goal is travelling to every country in the world, having your own house or getting that big promotion. You need to clearly know what it is and have it displayed prominently in a space you see often, like your bedroom wall or office cubicle. But getting from here to there is not an easy process, and if you only know the destination and not the path, you can wander around for a long time without getting any closer in reality. And this is why short-term goals are important, all of which need to fulfil two requirements: to get you a step closer to your goal, from any angle, and to give you instant gratification as you achieve them. The former will ensure you’re not doing things in vain, while the latter will keep you motivated and decrease the chances of burnout and giving up.
Focus on the moment
It’s perfectly fine to daydream, plan the future and think about how amazing it will be when you’re there. But you’re not there now: you’re here, in this moment, and the way you use this moment determines how fast you’re going to get to the famous “there”. Try and think of it this way: “What can I do today, that will ensure I’m more successful tomorrow?”. This way of thinking allows you to not only plan, but take action and feel like you are progressing a little every day as well. If your goal is to finish your studies, don’t focus on studying for the test you’ll take in a month, focus on reading and memorizing one chapter today. Make the steps small and achievable and you will feel like you are doing a lot more.
Don’t forget to have fun
Trying to change your life can be stressful and exhausting. This is why it’s important to not only make the process fun but also choose activities that benefit you both physically and mentally. One such activity is dancing. It will strengthen and energize your body while letting you express your emotions and be calmer mentally. You want to have all the necessary gear from a high quality manufacturer like Capezio dancewear, to ensure you don’t get any injuries that could set you back. Then find a teacher or studio near you and let your heart dance! Getting rid of stress and built-up emotions will allow you to go to your next task with a clear head and high energy.
Find an idol
We often hear that we shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to others. And while this is sometimes true, relating to another person whom we admire can be a great boost of motivation. Seeing that they, who are also only human, are achieving their dreams will let us know that it is absolutely possible. Furthermore, there’s no need to be jealous and try to sabotage them or envy them – we should learn from them. How did they get where they are? Trust me, it wasn’t just a “lucky break”.
Study their habits and methods and you will find yourself on the path of success sooner than you think. Remember that these people don’t have to have the exact same goals as you do, but similar enough that you can learn from them.
Staying motivated isn’t always possible, and you will have your bad days. Embrace them, welcome them with open arms, give yourself a break and rest your mind. Then tomorrow, pick yourself up, strike a power pose and go chase down that dream.
