Suffering From A Bad Tan? Here’s What You Can Do

We’ve all suffered from bad tan applications – you go in with the hopes of looking sunkissed but end up looking like you almost got burnt! Even though you might be tempted to sit down and cry with a tub of ice cream in hand, we recommend avoiding the dramatics and getting down to tan removal as soon as possible (to help you get rid of it as quickly as possible)

Whether you choose to use a tan eraser mousse(for a DIY application that went wrong) or a natural, home-remedy to prevent damaging your skin further, here is a list of the things you can do to get rid of your bad tan. Suffering from a bad tan? Here’s what you can do.

Exfoliate

Possibly the most popular method used for the removal of a tan. Exfoliating your skin helps in getting rid of the tan from its base;  by removing all the dead skin cells present at the surface. Depending on how deep the tan has been set; a set of gentle exfoliations can help you get rid of the tan that you’ve grown to hate.

You can choose to exfoliate with either; chemical applications that completely dissolve the dead skin cells on your body. Or through mechanical techniques;3 by using brushes or scrubs to rub off the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.

Tan removal products

If you, like many others during the pandemic; chose to take the safe route and apply a self-tanning lotion on your body to get the summer glow. You can easily get rid of the tan with the help of tan removal products.

Unlike a tan that you get from a tanning bed or the sun; a tanning lotion (mousse or oil) can be removed with the help of tan removal products. On eCommerce outlets such as; Beach N Tan; you can find a variety of tanning mousses in Australia. That is suitable for your skin type, allowing you to get the colour tone you want.

Alongside their tanning products, you can also get a tan eraser mousse; allowing you to get rid of the tan that you put on your skin.

Skin lightening products

When you suffer from a bad tan due to your tanning bed or the sun; it can be hard to get rid of it.  Although it’s not impossible. Skin lightening products allow you to lighten up the severely dark spots on your skin.

Some of the skin lightening products that you can find in your general store include:

  • Azelaic acid
  • Glycolic acid
  • Retinoids
  • Vitamin C
  • Kojic acid

*Please note that you must look for creams/cleansers/face + body washes inclusive of the abovementioned products in their list of ingredients.

Have a shower!

If you’ve applied tanning products at home and began to notice problems with the tan’s application beforehand; you can get rid of it in time with the help of a shower. Having a hot shower will allow you to get rid of the tan before it sets into your skin; making it easier for you to avoid streaky and patchy tan lines in time.

Don’t use DIY methods

If this isn’t your first time getting a bad tan; you might’ve looked over several DIY treatments of bad tans online. These might include lemon juice and bleaching agents. While they do work; they’re not good for your skin and can ultimately lead to skin burns and rashes due to irritability.

Avoid taking a severe step and follow treatments that are trusted. Your skin is the largest organ on your body; you must take care of it!
