Which Of These Top 6 Dining Mistakes Are You Making?
When dining at a restaurant, are you the sort of individual who is always asking for the manager? Do you, with your regular complaints about the dishes served- something that you always claim isn’t your fault – always put off your friends?
There are endless ways to dine, but there are also some common dining mistakes that 99% of us are guilty of. Restaurant dining manners are all different, and dining behaviour at restaurants can be acquired through paying attention and experience. For more on some of the common mistakes you might be making when dining out, read on below. Which of these top 6 dining mistakes are you making?
1. Failure to mention any allergies
Assuming that the service staff will recognise your allergies judging by your order is a big mistake. You should not assume that the server will automatically know that you are allergic to nuts simply because you order a salad that does not have almonds.
Prior to making your order, it is essential that you share any information about your dietary restrictions with the service staff.
Iliana Koleva, a healthy smoothie expert in Kogarah, says to “always mention your allergy, even if you don’t think that you are in danger after reading through the menu. You might be allergic to a secret ingredient used in the meal that you might not be aware of.”
2. Not asking for menu changes upfront
Sometimes, you need to order some butter before the bread goes cold, so this is not a complete mistake. On the other hand, you should remember that making your order through a number of different people may result in some level of miscommunication.
It is instead much better for you to ask for the person who took your initial order. Be sure to make a comprehensive order of what you need; which brings me to:
3. Ordering in bits and pieces
Sometimes you have to start your meal before you recognize the need for any additional pepper or salt; so this part can be somewhat of a challenge. However, the waiting staff would highly appreciate you not sending them back and forth. Especially, considering the fact that they have other clients to serve as well. This will also help you enjoy your meal, uninterrupted. Professional service staff members are trained to remember your order, regardless of how long it is, so don’t be afraid of mentioning all the details.
4. Inadvertently indicating that you are done eating
Having your plate taken from the table before you are done with our meal can be very annoying. Though, your fork and knife might be to blame. To keep the staff from interrupting your conversations, they take non-verbal cues of your eating status from the utensils.
Place your knife on the right side of your plate at a four o’clock angle with the blade facing inwards, if you are continuing with the meal. Placed at an eight o’clock angle, on the left side of the plate should be your fork.
Placing the fork and knife at an eight o’clock angle in the middle of the plate indicates that you are done with the meal. When you still have most of your truffle fries on the plate, this information will save you from the frightening thought of having your plate removed from your table, with any luck.
5. Not asking for a split bill before the bill arrives
Before making your order, mention to the server about any decision to split the bill in more than two ways. The likelihood of errors on the resulting bill will be minimized. The server will also take this chance to tell you about any restrictions relating to billing that may exist at the restaurant.
6. Treating staff members rudely
This one will be brief. The food that you are about to consume is prepared and handled by these people. By preparing it and serving it to you at your table they are also offering a service. Instead of starting conflicts, food should bring people together. See how enjoyable your dining experiences will be by avoiding the above-mentioned mistakes.
