People Who Sleep In Are Smarter
People who sleep in are smarter and more creative, science says. No more labelling those sleepyheads as lazy or being screamed at for being slack. Apparently, science says those late starters are actually the most creative one out of us all.
As it turns out those night owls, according to the University of Madrid researchers who analysed the sleeping patterns of 1000 students late-evening owls, who later sleep in, score higher on inductive reasoning tests, compared with early-birds folk.
Another similar study by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan found that night people are more likely to develop original and creative solutions to problems than morning people. This study’s leader, Marina Giampietro, said this was because creativity comes from ‘development of non-conventional spirit and of the ability to find alternative and original solutions,’ essentially meaning that early birds might be more productive, but night owls are more creative.
Therefore night owls and early birds may be predisposed to different patterns of thinking, and thus to different potentials in life. Those who prefer late nights tend to possess the kind of intelligence often linked to high incomes and more prestigious jobs, while early risers typically get better grades in school.
So the next time someone tells you to get up, roll over and say science says you’re a creative type who needs more sleep than others. Can’t argue with science!
