In case you haven’t heard, the Military Diet is the latest diet craze for rapid weight loss. This diet claims to help you lose weight quickly, up to 10 pounds (4.5 kg) in a single week. The military diet is surprising popular for those who need to get skinny fast.
With this diet, there’s no book, supplements or expensive food lists you need to buy. Sounds great so far?
In case you were wondering, the Military Diet has no official affiliation with the military. It is also known as the Navy diet, the army diet and even the ice cream diet. If it conjures thoughts of extreme measures, it actually is not so.
What Is the Military Diet?
The Military diet involves a strict three-day meal plan followed by 4 days off, and the weekly cycle is repeated again and again until you reach your goal weight.
For those three days, you consume between 1,100 and 1,400 calories each day, well below the recommended daily intake for adults.
It is recommended that three-day plan is followed by four days of healthy eating. If you haven’t lost all the weight in one week, then proponents also claim you can keep following the diet until you reach your goal.
How Does the Military Diet Work?
The diet is actually split into 2 phases over a 7-day period. For the first 3 days, you have to follow a set low-calorie meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No snacks are allowed between meals during these 3 days. The total calorie intake during this time is roughly 1100 -1400 calories a day.
Does it work?
It can work, but not for long. If you want to lose a few pounds quickly, then the military diet can help. Be aware, however, that you are likely to regain the weight back quickly too. This is not a good diet for lasting weight loss. If you want to keep your weight loss off, then there are better methods out there.
