Science Fiction constantly projects technologies that seem attainable but that actually never materialise in reality. Naming a few delusional and fictitious tech examples; the hover boards, the invisibility cloaks, flying cars, and the list goes on.
However, a few days ago Nike made one such science fiction technology a reality. Nike checked self-lacing shoes, with power laces, off the futuristic list, debuting the HyperAdapt 1.0. Thus, channelling Marty McFly’s from Back to the Future II power-lacing sneakers.
So how do they work?
The sneakers start lacing when you put your foot in and your heel hits a sensor. The shoes also have two special buttons on the side for tightening and loosening until it feels perfect to you.
So, other than making a technology real from cult movie of the late ‘80s, why on earth do we need a self-lacing sneaker?
Nike says that the setup solves a problem for athletes, since the sneakers allow for quick adjustments without stopping to fully re-tie. “Precise, consistent, personalized lockdown can now be manually adjusted on the fly,” Nike says.
The shoe will be available in three colours, and the price has not yet been revealed.
