Eat and lose weight. Isn’t that a contradiction in terms?

When I first heard this sentence I burst out laughing, on the inside of course, and thought it’s just impossible to eat and lose weight. It’s contradictory to everything we all been told. You are probably more familiar with eat less and exercise more.

Eating to lose weight might seem like a contradiction in terms but certain food properties can actually help you slim down.  With intelligent food choice you can and will lose weight. Before going ahead and listing these miracle foodstuffs, you should at all cost stay away from sugar-laden food like chocolate bars and fried food like chips.

Here is a list of food that helps you lose weight:

Good Snacks

Healthy snacks are hard to come by when you’re on the go, so plan ahead. Keep a supply of snacks in your handbag. Snacks like mixed nuts and raisins are a good choice as they release energy slowly which means you feel fuller for longer.

Pasta

Surprised pasta made it to the list? Pasta is great for maintaining muscle while losing weight. Pasta is low-GI food, meaning it releases energy slowly.

Chilies

Chiles are great for adding taste to your food; part of your diet is to keep your recipes simple -no high calorie sauces.

 Figs

Why figs? The daily-recommended fiber intake is between 25-35 grams of fiber. High fiber food keeps you feeling fuller longer which makes you want to eat less. Figs are very high on fiber and are very versatile to use in both savoury and sweet dishes.

Surf & Turf

Surf & turf is one of my favourite dishes.  This dish gives you two doses of protein in one hit. Protein is an essential element in losing weight. Leucine, an amino acid found in poultry, fish and meat, is the key for building lean muscle mass and keep the hormones that regulate your appetite   in check.

Bread

Bread has suffered a bad rap over the years, but eating bread filled with oats, seeds and high in fiber as opposed to white bread can help you keep weight off.

You can eat to your hearts desire as long as you make intelligent choices with food that are equally tasty and satisfying.

Tina

Tina is a DailyStar senior writer. She graduated from Edith Cowan University. Writing has always been something she enjoyed. Her positive outlook colours every aspect of her life. Her motto -Life’s too short so get living.

When she’s not busy writing, Tina is exploring the city she adores, running in her local Park every day, drinking an absurd amount of coffee, taking care of an adorable pup, kids and traveling.
