Invisalign – Invisible Braces for a Visible Smile

Media and influencers have been talking about this for a few years now and continue to praise the merits of this method to adults looking for an orthodontic solution.

But what is this method that seems to appeal so much? Here’s everything you need to know about Invisalign. Invisalign, invisible braces for a visible smile.

What is Invisalign?

Orthodontics using Invisalign is an increasingly popular method that aims to correct the positioning of teeth the same way as braces. The difference is that instead of attaching metal brackets directly to the teeth, Orthodontic will place transparent plastic aligners around the teeth.

Coming from the United States, this method is very successful because it provides the same results as braces but is also very comfortable and discreet.

How Does it Work?

Invisalign is so popular, especially to adults, because it’s very similar to fitting conventional braces except for a few more advantages.

If you are considering Invisalign, this is how the process will go.

First Phase

  • The process starts with an appointment with an orthodontist who is an expert with this method. During the first appointment, the orthodontist checks that Invisalign is suitable for you and explains the course of the treatment.
  • Then, the molding process of your Invisalign will take place either through a traditional approach as a specialist takes the print of your teeth with a clay-like substance or through creating a digital impression using x-rays and HD photos.
  • After that, the orthodontist will send the complete file directly to Invisalign which will take charge of carrying out a simulation, called a “ClinCheck”.

ClinCheck is a 3D animated short film that predicts the results before and after the treatment and studies the placement of the aligners. The orthodontist then takes control of the “ClinCheck” modifying the positioning of the cleats on the teeth. Usually, there are between 5 and 10 round trips between the orthodontist and Invisalign to achieve the perfect simulation.

  • When Orthodontist approves “ClinCheck”, Invisalign makes the aligners for the entire treatment using a 3D printer. The patient then comes to the clinic for the installation of aligners to help the rotation of a tooth.
  • During these appointments, the orthodontist may have to do “stripping”, that is to say, polishing between the teeth.

Second Phase

  • After that, you can try your Invisalign tray for the first time. You should wear each tray for two weeks. However, when wearing a new aligner, you may experience discomfort and difficulty when speaking, but this will only be temporary.
  • The number of trays required will vary depending on the degree of straightening required as part of your Invisalign process. The duration of treatment is determined by the degree of severity of the misalignment of the teeth:
  • Minor: from 3 to 8 months.
  • Moderate: 9 to 14 months. (most frequently)
  • Severe: 14 to 20 months.
  • Just like any other kind of teeth straighteners, after finishing your Invisalign treatment, you need to wear a retainer. Although the period of using a retainer can extend to several years, you have to wear them only at night. Besides, retainers are essential in maintaining a straight smile.

Patient Cooperation When Wearing Invisalign Aligners

The patient should follow a certain care routine to ensure the proper progress of treatment using Invisalign aligners. Here are some helpful tips to take care of your Invisalign:

  1. You should wear the aligners daily, except during meals and hygiene care (tooth brushing and dental floss). The aligners should also be removed when drinking, except for water. Apart from these exceptions, aligners should be worn day and night.
  2. White attachments may be placed on some of your teeth. These attachments are hardly visible and allow the aligners to be more effective during certain dental movements. Notify your dentist or hygienist not to remove them during your teeth cleaning visits.
  3. Clean your aligners regularly using toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. However, stay away from using abrasive materials like soap, denture cleaner, and mouthwash. Doctors recommend cleaning your tray twice daily, in the evening and the morning, to prevent the growth of bacteria.
  4. Soak your aligners daily in mildly warm water to keep them hygienic and odorless. And remember to rinse them with water each time you take them off.
  5. Keep the aligners in their case. Make it a habit to store them always in their case whenever you take them off to eat or brush your teeth. This way you won’t damage them or lose them.

Your smile is already beautiful. But if you could make it brighter, why not? A smile with perfect teeth is a beaming smile of confidence.
