The Great Debate – Tea vs Coffee

Which one is better for you- Coffee or Tea?

Turns out people are pretty fiercely divided between these caffeine-packing beverages. With two of the world’s favourite caffeine-packing beverages in the ring, who will be the winner?

ASAPThought, a youtube channel, that explains most things through science have decided to take on the debate by listing the health benefits of both these drinks and see which is the best.

Unless you have been living under a rock you have undoubtedly noticed the abundance of articles about coffee and its many health benefits online. Coffee has been in everybody’s lips and taste buds!! Which might have slightly ticked off the tea lovers.

Many health benefits seen in tea are also seen in coffee, both are packed with powerful antioxidants, which have been shown to inhibit the growth of some cancers, to protect against cardiovascular disease and help reduce risk of type II diabetes. In addition coffee which packs three times the caffeine of tea, studies show that coffee drinkers have up to a 65% lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease and a lower risk of getting Parkinson’s disease.

On the other hand tea has been shown to help with weight, a compound called EGCG along with the caffeine in green tea in particular actually helps shrink fat cells. But coffee is a winner when it comes to gaining muscle mass; studies have shown that those who drank around two cups of coffee before a workout were able to sprint 9% longer than those who didn’t.

Caffeine can be felt around your body in approximately 10 minutes, and it stimulates other chemicals and hormones in your body that keep your active.

It increases concentration, decreases fatigue and gives you better memory. This isn’t just a placebo; these are real effects replicable in a laboratory. In brief, just pure awesome!

Both coffee and tea are stimulants that keep people happy and their minds alert. Did you know that since the introduction of coffee and tea in the 1600s, when people switch from depressant (beer and gin) to a stimulant (tea or coffee) there was an intellectual boon compared to earlier centuries?

Seemingly, current research points to no clear-cut healthier choice, both are equally healthy. So just go enjoy your buzz-worthy beverage whichever it may be. Tea if you need to be calm and composed or coffee if you want to kick-start your day.

Overall both these fantastic hot beverages are just pure awesome. Turning humans into happier, more productive,  and thought engaging beings making tea and coffee the best beverages on the planet.
